Sorry I go months without posting. Sadly, there usually isn't anything to report.
Taco Bell was demolished and is being rebuilt. Off the top of my head, empty buildings in Euclid include a Pizza Hut, Pennzoil, Wendy's and many small buildings and units, including what looks like it was a K-Mart. It's a massive structure set back off Euclid Ave. near 260th. If you know what this place was and I'm completely off base, drop me a line.
I have gone into the Arabica numerous times and it's great. I really hope they do well. It's nice to have something local to visit and hand some cash over to. Euclid also has the nice new Dunkin Donuts near E. 222nd, and a Walgreen's across the street.
I haven't gone into the mall in forever. I see someone was nice enough to smash out some of the door glass, which has since been replaced with wood, then painted black, for the time being. I really don't understand why someone would do that, but it just goes to show you that some people simply don't care.

You are right about the building on the hill by 260. It was a K-Mart but it closed down years ago. The building across the street from the mall on Babitt used to be Twin Value and then a Super K-Mart. I'm not sure if anyone is using that now or if it's still empty. It's sad that we can not keep any big chain stores or restaurants in Euclid. Instead we have to go to other cities. It seems that the whole area from South of the freeway to Euclid Ave is going down hill. Hopefully the city can fix it.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the confirmation. I was pretty sure it was a k-mart that I went to a few times when I was much younger. In the right sunlight you can see scars, but they look like 84 Lumber or something. I can't remember exactly.
I definitely remember Twin Valu. I was never in that building while it was Super K. It's now used for some sort of manufacturing work.
It is indeed a shame how parts of the city is right now. It gets old running into panhandlers on your way into stores and such. I was really hoping for something with the PMX property, but I haven't seen or heard a thing in months.
The former Super K mart/Twin Valu building is, I think, being used by Dirt Devil for manufacturing and/or warehousing vacuum cleaners and parts. I remember reading that in the PD a while back.
ReplyDelete84 Lumber was next door to the original Euclid K-Mart. Twin Valu opened up in 1990 and closed in 1995. K-Mart opened the Super K in the former Twin Valu building shortly after and closed the old store next door to 84 Lumber. I remember when a Armored Car security guard was shot at the Super-K around 97 or so. The suspect was later caught. I beleive the store closed in 2002 when K-Mart was going through bankruptcy.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Euclid and my parents currently Still live there and many properties I have seen closed and vacant get torn down or just keep getting used as politcal positioning pieces. some of the vacant buildings include most of the Euclid Fischer body plant, Sims Buick, several building on the old TRW now park ohio property. Alot of these mentioned all come to the fore ground during election years. saying great things are coming big companys High tax dollars but yet there they sit. Euclid does have alot to offer however the much of the administration act as if one of clevelands largest suburbs like it is an exclusive village. Look along Euclid ave. to see miles of broken promises and poor city management. In all fairness Euclid is not a bad city for what is has to offer however in the past 10-15 years euclid has gone from offering a fair amount of everything to becoming an east side authority on Discount stores, check cashing places, rental stores, and liquor stores. Seriously is there enough need for three check cashing places on E 200th alone? Let me point out that from the freeway north to lake shore a person could get money from one of three check cashing places,4 atm machines and a bank. Its said but Euclid will see more vacancies until its at a rebuilding stage like East Cleveland is starting to enter...
ReplyDeleteThe x Kmart on top of the hill at the corner of E. 260th and Euclid was originally built as a "Clarkins" which was a Kmart style store. It closed down in the early to mid 70's and sat vacant for many years until Kmart tried the spot in the early 80's

ReplyDeleteThe old Kmart on the hill at Euclid and E. 260th was purchased bt the Grace Community SDA congregation. Partial renovation was just completed. They opened 3/4/23.
