Thursday, March 1 2007 is the 30th birthday of Euclid Square Mall.
The tax rate in Euclid, Ohio is a painful 2.85%. My pocketbook is now largely unoccupied.
Live it up, ESM, have all the other empty buildings in Euclid over for a real blowout.
We're paying big bucks for you to have a good time.
Formerly the Dead Euclid blog, Euclid Evolution aims to show what Euclid once was in pictures and words, and how Euclid is today. Our focus is on history and architecture. Our goal is to photograph the changing face of the retail and restaurant industry in our Cleveland suburb, because we think that kind of thing is fascinating.
Ugh... that tax rate kills me when I work in Euclid. My paycheck drop substantially. I hate it.
ReplyDeleteHi jen. My name is dave, And I' a proud,(ehhh, sorta) 13 year old euclidean. I had only been in the once-vibrant ESM for a couple years. the next ten years, I remember fond memories of a giant talking bear, sitting in the pits with my mom, riding the christmas train. I live about 3 minutes away from ESM, WALKING. It burns me to see people trash my neighborhood.Unfortunatley, half of what they say is true. That there IS crime, and abandoned houses, I.E St.Clair, But euclid really isn't like that. I could bet 100 dollars they haven't been on kapel, that's the street I live on.
ReplyDeleteI would sell my kidneys and limbs to see euclid sqaure mall vibrant again. But we have to work
on the surrounding area's first.
You just can't have a nice mall when there is an abandoned Toys R' us right there. Richmond mall is about to die, (thankfully, sadly, you choose). Some people can see that as an opportunity. I as a matter fact see it that way too. Those vendors could very well bring ESM to life, as well did ESM bring richmond mall back to life.
WE need to clean up the neighborhood. And thankfully, its starting to get a little better. Only time will tell if euclid can prevent someone from putting their hubcaps in the trunk.
@ Dave:
ReplyDeleteI live quite close to the mall as well, which is what really sparked my interest in the first place. I completely agree with everything you say, I surely feel safe in my area and never have I had such friendly neighbors who will talk with you, help you out, anything, and I have lived all over Lake county.
So much needs to be done and it only seems that "Downtown Euclid" is getting any attention, along with the Lakefront. It's quite frustrating how this end of Euclid seems to be completely forgotten about.
Thanks for stopping by!
No problem! In fact I just rode by ESM. Looked like a mall that was just closed for the holidays. I'm serious. I keep thinking that the mall is open. :P
