In 1946 brothers Al and Bob Pelton of Salt Lake City, Utah began one of America's favorite food confections, a chain of Spudnut Donut Shops spanning Alaska to Mexico.
It didn't take long for a Spudnut location to sprout in Euclid. Euclid Shore Spudnut Shop opened its doors at 22550 Lakeshore Blvd. during the second week of April 1948.The Pelton brothers continued until retirement in 1968, at which time they sold the company, which boasted over 300 franchises.
Euclid Spudnut and Coffee Shop moved from Lakeshore Blvd. to 397 East 200th Street, as evidenced in this holiday party ad published December, 1961.Business at the Euclid Spudnut was so good another move was on the horizon, this one during summer 1963. The grand opening of the "new, enlarged Spudnut and coffee shop at 22473 Shore Center Drive" took place June 7th and 8th, 1963.
Operated by the Ken-Kay Co. was the husband wife team of Kenneth and Kathryn Kramp.
Due to poor business dealings, Spudnut would close the parent company in 1989, and the remaining franchised locations, now numbering under 30, would be on their own.

Kathryn passed away in 1981, Kenneth in 1984.
This is how the original Euclid Spudnut and Coffee Shop looks today:
The second was 397 East 200th, which no longer exists. It jumps from 395 to 401.
The most recent and last footprint is today overtaken by Dave's Markets Shore Center.
The only remaining Spudnut locations in Ohio are Mentor and Berea.
I remember the E200 and Shore Center locations well. Never did like the doughnuts very much, though.
