One of the busiest shops in the Shore Center Shopping Center is the Aldi grocery store that moved in in 2010. Located at 22300 Lakeshore Blvd., it's been happily thriving for 4 years, so let's take a step back in time and see what else used to call this storefront home.
The first store to ever reside at 22300 Lakeshore Blvd. was Burr's Department Store.
There was much ceremony and even a ribbon cutting around the grand opening of Burr's. They also had a second location located at 16700 Lorain Ave. in Cleveland.
By 1951 the store was referred to as Scott-Burrs, a Butler Brothers Store. A few months later, it was simply being called Butler Bros.
And on June 23, 1955, They take out a full page "going out of business" ad.
1948-1955. But was that really it for the Butler Bros. store in Euclid?

Butler Brothers was a retailer and wholesale supplier based in Chicago. It was founded in 1877 as a mail-order company by George H. Butler and Edward Burgess Butler. In the 1920s, Butler Brothers moved into retailing with a chain of "Scott" and "L. C. Burr" stores. Here's a want ad for a shoe salesman. Notice that it's care of Butler Bros. Butler Brothers continued to be represented at Shore Center--their Scott's variety store chain had a store there between Fisher's & Gornik's. They also had stores at Forest Hills Plaza in East Cleveland (Euclid & Forest Hills) and later at the Fazio's shopping center on Euclid in Wickliffe.
ReplyDelete"Scott-Burrs, a Butler Brothers Store" was quite a name. I don't remember it at all, but I do remember the Bing's operation. A nice store.
