Ground Round and Uncle Jack's Restaurant and Bar

In 1974, the Ground Round Restaurant opened at 22661 Shore Center Drive in Euclid. At the time the Ground Round was located next to Milt Miller Pontiac. This was the second Ground Round in Ohio. The first was built in North Olmsted.

What made the Ground Round fun as a kid was the free popcorn and peanuts that were given out by the restaurant. The peanuts were allowed to be thrown on the floor and a movie screen would be playing an old cartoon or Three Stooges movie. They also had very good food. A second Ground Round opened on Lake Shore Blvd. in Willowick. The Ground Round on Shore Center closed sometime in the late 1990's. The one in Willowick closed sometime in the 2000's.

Uncle Jack's preceded the Ground Round. It opened sometime around 1961. What is interesting in this early ad for Uncle Jacks it was listed at 22761 Shore Center Drive, but in later ads it was listed as 22661 Shore Center Drive.

Uncle Jack's served Fish and Chicken and Steaks. They even had Shrimp. Uncle Jack's was open 7 days a week and had a full bar.

Uncle Jack's was a popular restaurant but in 1971 it was raided for selling liquor to underage kids. When it was raided, seven adults, including two bartenders were arrested. It was raided after complaints of 14 and 15 year olds being served liquor. Ground Round took over 3 years later at the same site.
