You think elections are pure insanity nowadays, have a peek into yesteryear, when an employee of the local newspaper at that time (The Euclid Observer) claimed to have been shot at while distributing special editions of the paper.
September, 1937. Pat Pietro was allegedly fired at 4 times while driving at about 30 mph on East 260th St.*, and was able to show police the bullet holes in his car. Attempting to get out of harms way, he veered to the right, and noticed a coupe in the distance, but was unable to tell much more than that.
The paper Pietro worked for was apparently against the administration of Charles Ely, and the victim claimed that he had been told to lay off [with the attacks] previously.
Yikes!
*I live on 260th and if I saw someone going 30 nowadays I'd wonder if they had actually already been shot. To death. Because folks go about 50 mph, tbh.
Formerly the Dead Euclid blog, Euclid Evolution aims to show what Euclid once was in pictures and words, and how Euclid is today. Our focus is on history and architecture. Our goal is to photograph the changing face of the retail and restaurant industry in our Cleveland suburb, because we think that kind of thing is fascinating.
