From it's completion in 1971 until 1973, 26100 Euclid Avenue was built for and occupied by Clarkin's.
In 1978, There are a couple ads for a Ridgecliff hospital operating 26100 Euclid Avenue. But mostly, it was a big nothing for 7 years.
Until it was formally announced in October 1980 that a 100,000+ sq. ft. Kmart would be moving in. 26100 Euclid Avenue became the 134th or 102nd Ohio Kmart, and had an opening date of November, 1980.
Louisville, Kentucky transplant Richard P. Ashton was chosen as first general manager of Euclid's new Kmart. Ashton had worked with the company for 15 at that point.
Working to open on time are Mary Piscopo and Agnes "Cookie" Campbell. Grand opening! This premium insert states that Kmart at 26100 Euclid is the 102nd Kmart store in Ohio. Who knows! At any rate, Euclid's first Kmart opened right on time on November 20, 1980. Shown are employees James Bona in the appliance department, Pamela Rosa in children's clothing, Deborah Greenway in kid's pajamas, Marsha Lyons in domestics, and a group photo at the customer service desk of Claude Hendrick (co manager), Leila Harris & James Thornton (assistant managers), Richard Ashton (manager), and Maureen O'day & John Sheffield (assistant managers). And as if opening in time for Christmas weren't enough to knock the socks off of Euclid shoppers, Tattoo was making an appearance in early December of 1980!
Herve Villechaize, made incredibly famous to me as a toddler by the TV show Fantasy Island, was actually at our Kmart! SINGING! If only I'd not been 8 months old.
